Man Celebrates Homeless Woman's Birthday

The video of a kindhearted man celebrating a homeless woman’s birthday with a makeshift party on the street has gone viral.
They speak in Spanish. But smiles and laughter are universal across cultures, and it's not hard to interpret Andrea Chaparro's joy as she receives her surprise from Emilio Aparicio Rodriguez.
In the video dated Dec. 17, Aparicio approaches Chaparro, who sits on a sidewalk with a dog, and gingerly fastens on a party hat. He then lights a candle on a chocolate frosted donut.
A group gathers for a round of "Happy Birthday," shaking hands with Chaparro as they sing. At the end, Aparicio hands her a yellow balloon with instructions to make a wish and let it go, according to LiveLeak.
"I don't know what to wish for," Chaparro says, according to LiveLeak. Rodriguez responds, "Anything you want!"
In an altruistic move that makes her special day even more heartwarming, she releases the balloon and reportedly says, "Let everyone be happy!"

John Bolton: Hillary Clinton Came Up With 'Diplomatic Illness' To Avoid Benghazi Testimony

John Bolton, former U.N. ambassador under President George W. Bush, suggested Monday night that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton fabricated a "diplomatic illness" in order to dodge scheduled testimony this week on the Sept. 11 anniversary attack in Benghazi, Libya.
Speaking on Fox News, Bolton claimed "every foreign service officer in every foreign ministry in the world" is familiar with coming up with such "diplomatic illnesses" when they "don't want to go to a meeting or a conference, or an event."
"And this is a diplomatic illness to beat the band," Bolton said of recent news that Clinton had fainted and suffered a concussion over the weekend after earlier battling a stomach virus that resulted in a rare cancellation of an overseas trip. He went on to add that he hoped Clinton wasn't going through anything "serious."
Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, responded to the report by insisting that Clinton not testify as planned on Thursday this week.
Despite Kerry's decision to call forth Clinton's deputies to testify in her place, Bolton said that he believed she'd have to testify at some point on the attack, which claimed the lives of four Americans, including U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens.
As secretary of state, Clinton has shattered records for diplomacy and travel, logging more than 865,000 miles over trips to more than 108 countries. Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright held the previous record with visits to just under 100 nations.

Fox News Execs Squashed Talk Of Gun Control After Newtown Massacre: Report

UPDATE: Gabriel Sherman is standing by his report after Fox News' Brit Hume demanded a correction.
On Monday, The Hollywood Reporter disputed Sherman's report that Fox News staffers were told to avoid discussions of gun control over the weekend. Employees alleged that an email from executive producer David Clarke was "out of context," THR reported.
Later, Hume tweeted, "The Hollywood Reporter story covers a lot more than Fox News Sunday, & demolishes yr original story. Time for a correction." Sherman defended his piece, writing that he stands by it "100-percent."
"Gabe, your story was implausible on its face & contradicted by numerous examples," Hume responded. "I'm sorry for your sake you stand by it."
EARLIER: Rupert Murdoch may have become a vocal advocate of increased gun control in the we of the massacre in Connecticut. Just don't tell that to Fox News.
The media mogul loudly called for a renewed push for tighter gun laws after the murders at Sandy Hook Elementary. Many of his papers followed suit. The New York Post's front page on Monday blared, "ENOUGH!" The Sun cried, "END THE LUNACY."
However, New York magazine's Gabriel Sherman reported on Monday that top Fox News executives explicitly barred people from discussing the topic. According to Sherman, the edict came from David Clark, the man in charge of weekend coverage, as well as Michael Clemente, the powerful vice president for news, who backed Clark's ruling that it was too soon to talk about guns. "We were expressly forbidden from discussing gun control," one source said.

Great Ormond Street's Christmas Presents Stolen From Hospital's Child Patients

Police appealed for help on Tuesday to find the thief who stole Christmas presents destined for sick children at London's world-famous Great Ormond Street Hospital.
The wrapped presents, which included portable DVD players, DVDs, Nintendo consoles, games and toys, were provided by the hospital's charity fund and were intended for children being treated in the intensive care unit.
Inspector Neal Anderson of Scotland Yard said the theft was "beyond belief".
However, within hours of the news being made public, the hospital announced that one of its long-term supporters had stepped in to buy new gifts.
"We have been overwhelmed by generous offers from individuals and companies to replace the missing items," said a spokeswoman.
"These items have now been replaced by a long-term supporter. Thank you to everyone who has contacted us for their concern and kindness."
Police said the presents had been stolen between Friday and Monday from an area of the hospital that was not open to the public.
"To steal presents that were supposed to be for children too sick to be at home with their families at Christmas is beyond belief," said Anderson.
He urged anyone with information to contact police, adding: "I would also urge the thief to try and think about their actions and do the decent thing and return them."

Obama Approval Rating Hits 57 Percent In CBS Poll

President Obama's approval rating has reached 57 percent, a CBS News poll released Tuesday found.
This marks Obama's strongest rating in the poll since the death of Osama bin Laden in May 2011. His rating in the poll is up from October, when a pre-election poll found 50 percent of voters approving of the president's performance.
The CBS poll, which focused on the fiscal cliff negotiations, also found that 37 percent of those surveyed think the country is on the right track, down from 40 percent in September.
The poll surveyed 1,179 respondents between December 12 and December 16, with a three percent margin of error.
Other polls have shown Obama's popularity rising in recent weeks. An Associated Press-GfK released earlier this month also found the president's approval at 57 percent, up 5 points from a pre-election poll. And in a Quinnipiac University survey, the president's approval rating reached 53 percent, a three-year high for the president in the university's poll.
HuffPost Pollster's chart, which tracks all publicly available polls, currently finds Obama approval rating at 52.6 percent, his strongest rating since late 2009:

Terry Jones Drowned Out In Times Square By New York City Crowd Singing 'All You Need Is Love'

New Yorkers are famously terse, not known for patience or excessive diplomacy -- and certainly not for loud public displays of love.
So when anti-Islam, Quran-burning pastor Terry Jones showed up in Times Square last year, spewing anger and sporting a T-shirt that read, "Everything I Ever Needed To Know About Islam I Learned On 9/11," the results were certain to be dicey.
But a surprisingly touching video of that event, posted Monday by the New York Times just in time for the holiday season, shows humanity outweighs Jones' rage.
The video, filmed on Sept. 10, 2011, but only recently published, begins predictably: Jones standing in the square, advocating intolerance and hate. Several passersby attempt to argue with him to no avail. Soon a man begins reading out loud, then singing, "All You Need Is Love," the iconic classic by The Beatles.
Then, beautifully, a crowd joins in singing, drowning out Jones, and -- for the time being, at least -- love trumps hate.
